Tea Party

I threw my first tea party for my daughter and a few of her friends last weekend. It turned out so cute! I had all the girls wear their best dress ups and I bought some little bling bracelets and had a beaded necklace kit for each of the girls to make themselves at the table.

For the decorations, I got the tablecloth (twin sheet set, so it would be recycled,) the spring green 3 tiered cupcake holder, and flower shaped polkadotted plates at Target. All the Spring/ Easter stuff is out right now, so it was super easy to get things for a Tea Party themed party. The cups were .57 a piece at Ikea....love Ikea! I got the cupcakes at Costco and decorated them with Hershey Kisses and jellybeans and we served hot chocolate, instead of tea. Everything turned out super fun and the girls loved it!

Need to relax with a great movie? Yeah, me too!!

My honey brought home a movie from our local video store that he thought I would like. I had never heard of it, but I thought we would give it a shot....we absolutely loved it! It is called "Once" and, if you are looking for a great movie to watch, this is it! I also LOVED the soundtrack so much, that I had to download that onto my Ipod from Itunes, too! Pass it on if you get the chance, it is a great Flick!

Natural Baby Oil

My youngest, Hannah-5, has a skin condition, called Keratosis Pilaris, which is basically little red bumps on the back of her arms, sides of her face, and on the fronts of her thighs. Anyway, it is quite common, though there are varying degrees of it, there is no cure, and it is more cosmetic problem than it is harmful...BUT, it is spreading, so I am looking for some natural remedies that will improve the feel of her skin and stop it from getting any worse.

In my search, I have come across some interesting information that I wanted to share. First, mineral oil, which is petroleum based, is in nearly all baby oils. I had always tried to use Johnson's baby oil with my older daughter, but it left me wondering why people even used it. It didn't penetrate the skin well, was a mess, and put oil marks on clothing. Now, there are mixed views about whether mineral oil is good for your skin or really Baaad. What I do know and what I was really surprised about was the difference between using mineral oil and a natural plant based oil, like apricot kernel oil.

The apricot kernel oil is wonderful. It absorbs really well and surprisingly quickly. The brand I used was Burt's Bees, which I found at Target. It has softened her skin, and has made a big difference in the feel of her skin. An unexpected benefit is the way it has made my hands feel...smooth and silky and better than hand lotion! I also use a natural sea salt scrub, to gently and naturally exfoliate her rough areas in the shower. Anyway, hope this helps someone. Let me know if anyone has any experience with other natural baby products. I would love to hear your stories! ~Kelly
